Parent Testimonials

“Last year, we’d experienced a lot of problems with our son. We took him to probation officers, we talked to doctors and we were at a total loss figuring out what to do. I was referred to Shawna, and her CD series. I can’t tell you how much they have come to mean to me.

Listening to the CDs was like having her sit right there next to you and talk to you. She has a great conversational manner and warmth that really comes through. She’s so articulate and the ideas were absolutely what I needed. She takes every part of what a parent is going through and explains why and what they can do. It’s about what you can do, not so much about focusing on the child. It’s about you and how to take of yourself and how to become strong and how to set boundaries. It’s just fantastic.

The best thing about the CD series is that I got a sense of how to take back control of my life while my child is out of control. I am learning to allow him to make the mistakes that will give him the consequences where he can finally say “I’ve had enough” and turn his life around. It has given me hope.”

“Shawna’s CDs have given us the tools to use to deal with our son’s disease of addiction. We don’t have to feel helpless and hopeless anymore.

The best thing about the CDs is that when you need help, it’s right there. All you have to do is find the topic on the CDs and listen. You don’t have to call someone and wait for them to call you back or make an appointment. The topics that you need are right there.

For instance, I know when my son came home from rehab, my biggest worry was relapse. I was able to listen to the relapse section of the CDs while I was at the gym one day, and I so I felt more informed and prepared.”

Susan, Parent

“The CD series is great and really opened up our eyes. We were kind of in denial ourselves about our teenage son’s problems.

The best thing about the CD series is it makes you wake up and face the fact that your teen’s problem may be a worse situation than you want to realize. And it’s a problem that you can’t just let go on and on, because, like the CDs said, the longer you let it go, the worse it’s going to get.”

Ron, Parent

I've always known how detrimental drugs and alcohol can be. As a matter of fact, I've educated myself on our society's widespread problem with drug and alcohol abuse. Because of this, my family seemed to think I was hyper-sensitive and overreacting when my son started to have problems.

When I listened to Shawna Bowen’s CD series, I felt empowered. Shawna is an educated professional whose experience validated what I was going through with my son. I know now that am not alone in my thinking or how I feel we need to take care of my family.

The suggestions on the CDs help me stay focused on the problem and not get as wrapped up in my emotions when I’m trying to help my child. They also helped my husband and I come up with a specific plan together to help our son.

The best thing about these CDs is they show you that you’re not alone, you’re not crazy, and you’re not overreacting to look for help for your child. And they give you hope.

Professional Testimonials

"Shawna has remarkable insight into the manipulations of the teen addict, and the suggestions she offers to parents can be applied immediately. Shawna shows great empathy for parents, and gives applicable, down to earth advice.  She clearly defines ways for parents to lovingly and significantly influence their child to stop using and drinking."

The kids I send to Shawna Bowen are immediately drawn to her. She’s able to get through to them in a way that nobody else has. They feel safe talking to her. Every kid I send to her just adores her, they look forward to their counseling sessions with her. In fact, a lot of kids go to a Friday group she holds for them for free, even after they are no longer on probation. That really says something for her message and methods.

And it’s not just the kids, Shawna gets through to the parents, too. Most of the time, it’s not just the kids who need help, the parents need guidance, they need redirection. She knows how to offer that guidance in such a way that parents are receptive to her suggestions.

Plus the probation officers I work with just adore Shawna. We believe in her and the work she does. You can tell this is not just a job to Shawna, she has genuine concern for her clients, which makes her very, very good at what she does.

In a word, Shawna is amazing.
